Is identifying WiFi users mandatory in Switzerland?
Swiss telecommunications surveillance legislation (SPTA/OSPT) imposes obligations on professional access providers, and identifying users of public WiFi networks is strongly recommended. If abuse is committed through your network, you need to be able to show who was connected. Omny WiFi gives you that traceability effortlessly.
What data is collected about my visitors?
Only the mobile number, the device’s technical address (MAC/IP) and the connection timestamp. No browsing data is collected. Everything is kept for 6 months and then erased automatically.
Do my visitors need to install an app?
No. The portal opens automatically when they join the network, on every device (iOS, Android, laptops). A mobile number is all it takes.
What equipment do I need?
A UniFi (Ubiquiti) infrastructure with a guest network — the most widespread setup among SMBs. Activation happens remotely through the UniFi API, with no on-site visit in most cases.
Who can access the phone numbers?
Neither your venue nor our partners can see full numbers. Only Omny Digital SA can access them, exclusively to answer a formal request from the competent Swiss authorities.
